Salvage
How mcMMO's Salvage child skill works. recovering raw materials from damaged gear with Scrap Collector and pulling enchantments back out as books with Arcane Salvage, plus how Salvage's level is derived from Repair and Fishing.
Salvage is the mirror image of Repair: instead of fixing gear, you break it down for parts. Place a salvage anvil, right-click a damaged item, and you get back some of the raw materials it was made from, and, with Arcane Salvage, a chance to recover its enchantments as an enchanted book.
| Type | Child skill (no direct XP, no super ability) |
| Parent skills | Repair + Fishing |
| How its level is set | (Repair level + Fishing level) ÷ 2, rounded down |
| Sub-skills | Scrap Collector, Arcane Salvage |
| Command | /salvage |
How your Salvage level is calculated
Because Salvage is a child skill, mcMMO never grants it XP. Instead, every time it needs your Salvage level it computes:
Salvage level = floor( (min(Repair, RepairCap) + min(Fishing, FishingCap)) ÷ 2 )Each parent is first clamped to its own level cap, then the two are averaged. So if you're
Repair 80 and Fishing 40, your Salvage level is (80 + 40) ÷ 2 = 60. The fastest
way to climb Salvage is to push both parents up. Leaning on only one of them caps your
average at half that skill's level.
How salvaging works
- Place down the salvage anvil (a Gold Block by default, configurable in
config.yml). - Hold the damaged item you want to scrap.
- Right-click the anvil. The item is consumed and its materials fly back to you.
Rules enforced by the code:
- The item must meet the minimum Salvage level for that item type.
- Unbreakable items can't be salvaged.
- By default a confirmation click is required (
Salvage_Confirm_Requiredinconfig.yml): first click warns, second click within ~3 seconds salvages.
How much you get back
Salvage yield depends on how damaged the item is and your Scrap Collector rank. A pristine item returns its full potential; a battered one returns proportionally less.
The base yield is:
potential yield = floor( item's max quantity × (durability remaining ÷ max durability) )So an item at full durability can return all of its materials, while one at 50% durability returns roughly half. That figure is then capped by your Scrap Collector limit.
Scrap Collector: recover more parts
Scrap Collector raises the maximum number of materials a single salvage can return.
| Rank | Standard level | RetroMode level | Max items returned |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| 2 | 10 | 100 | 4 |
| 3 | 15 | 150 | 6 |
| 4 | 20 | 200 | 8 |
| 5 | 25 | 250 | 10 |
| 6 | 30 | 300 | 12 |
| 7 | 35 | 350 | 14 |
| 8 | 40 | 400 | 16 |
At rank 1 you can only ever get 1 item back. From rank 2 onward the cap is rank × 2,
so rank 8 lets you recover up to 16 materials from a single item (assuming the item's
own max quantity and its remaining durability allow it).
The Salvage levels in the table are the child-skill levels Salvage needs to reach. Since that level is the average of Repair and Fishing, hitting Scrap Collector rank 8 (Salvage 40) means your Repair and Fishing have to average 40: e.g. both at 40, or one at 60 and the other at 20.
Arcane Salvage: pull enchantments back out
Arcane Salvage is Salvage's headline trick: when you scrap an enchanted item, you have a chance to extract its enchantments into an enchanted book instead of losing them.
For each enchantment on the item, mcMMO rolls:
- Full extraction: the enchantment is recovered at its full level. If this succeeds (or if enchant loss is disabled), the book gets the full enchant.
- Partial extraction: if the full roll fails, and the enchant is level 2+ with downgrades enabled, a second roll can recover it downgraded by one level.
- Otherwise the enchantment is lost.
Arcane Salvage ranks unlock at these Salvage levels, with these per-enchant chances:
| Rank | Standard | RetroMode | Full extract | Partial extract |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 10 | 100 | 2.5% | 2.0% |
| 2 | 25 | 250 | 5.0% | 2.5% |
| 3 | 35 | 350 | 7.5% | 5.0% |
| 4 | 50 | 500 | 10.0% | 7.5% |
| 5 | 65 | 650 | 12.5% | 10.0% |
| 6 | 75 | 750 | 17.5% | 12.5% |
| 7 | 85 | 850 | 25.0% | 15.0% |
| 8 | 100 | 1000 | 32.5% | 17.5% |

perk (if granted) extracts enchantments at 100%.
Extracted enchants are capped at level 5 by default (MaxEnchantLevel: 5), overridable
by ExploitFix.UnsafeEnchantments in experience.yml.
